In the Northern Coast of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, approximately 250 families, organized into 27 agroecological groups and associations, form the Núcleo Litoral Solidário, a regional hub of the Ecovida Network of Agroecology. This collective effort connects producers, consumers, and support organizations to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices and foster local resilience. Through the collaborative spirit of agroecology, these families not only grow food but also cultivate solidarity and environmental stewardship.
The Núcleo Litoral Solidário is composed of a diverse range of actors. Alongside the farmer groups, it includes consumer cooperatives such as Coopet in Três Cachoeiras and Ecotorres in Torres, which play a vital role in linking rural producers to urban communities. These cooperatives emphasize fair trade, organic food consumption, and the reduction of ecological footprints. Technical and educational support comes from organizations like the Centro Ecológico and Anama, which offer training, research, and guidance in agroecological practices. Additionally, initiatives such as the Mata Atlântica Environmental Education Network (Teia de Educação Ambiental Mata Atlântica) help integrate ecological awareness into local education systems, ensuring that agroecology is rooted in the community's values.
Small-scale enterprises, such as the Morro Azul Agroindustry and the Econativa Producers' Cooperative, also play a crucial role within the network. These entities process and distribute organic products, adding value to local agricultural output while creating economic opportunities for families involved. Their activities reflect the broader mission of the Ecovida Network: to build self-sufficient, ecologically responsible communities that thrive economically while preserving biodiversity and cultural heritage. Through this dynamic interplay of families, organizations, and businesses, the Núcleo Litoral Solidário exemplifies how regional agroecology can be a powerful driver of sustainable development.

The families and organizations of the Núcleo Litoral Solidário dream of a future where agroecology becomes the foundation of a thriving and equitable society. They envision a world where food systems are fully sustainable, prioritizing local production, environmental regeneration, and community well-being. Their dream is to see agroecological practices expand beyond their current reach, inspiring other regions to embrace sustainable farming and creating a ripple effect of positive change. For them, agroecology is not just a method of farming but a way of life—one that respects the cycles of nature, values collective knowledge, and strengthens the bonds between people and the land.
Another dream that drives this community is the creation of stronger networks that connect producers and consumers across urban and rural landscapes. They aspire to foster deeper understanding and solidarity among all participants in the food system, transforming consumption into an act of support and care. The dream includes greater access to markets, public policies that protect small-scale farmers, and educational programs that pass on agroecological principles to future generations. Ultimately, they aim to build a legacy of resilience and hope—a society where ecological balance, cultural heritage, and social justice thrive hand in hand.
