Brazil

Brève description de votre localisation et de vos pratiques

Family farming in Amazonas is also represented by solidarity economy enterprises engaged in the region’s main value chains. In this context, AGROUFAM – the family farming fair – stands out with each edition, showcasing over 100 initiatives. These enterprises are deeply rooted in both the tangible and intangible elements of Amazonian culture and biodiversity, offering a wide variety of products that reflect the region’s rich socio-biodiversity. The fair serves as a vibrant space for sharing knowledge, seeds, and agroecological practices grounded in traditional and community-based approaches.

The value chains developed within family farming are crucial for rural development in the Amazon. They not only boost local economies but also create spaces for grassroots organizations to engage in sociopolitical mobilization and institutional partnerships. AGROUFAM plays a key role in strengthening short supply chains, promoting direct producer-to-consumer sales, and valuing agroecological production. This fosters food sovereignty, ecological stewardship, and community resilience—core principles of agroecology.
