La Loma Viva

Spain

Descripción breve del lugar y las prácticas

Situated along the sun-drenched coast of Granada in southern Spain, La Loma Viva is a 15-hectare non-profit foundation and thriving farm. Perched on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, it offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, providing an idyllic backdrop for innovation in sustainable living and ecological restoration.

Since 2009, we have been at the forefront of researching and implementing agro-ecological strategies to combat the challenges of degraded Mediterranean landscapes. Our mission is to develop practical, scalable solutions that restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, and create resilient ecosystems. By combining traditional knowledge with modern techniques, we aim to inspire and empower others to steward the land responsibly.

Central to our approach is Permaculture Design, which has guided the development of the farm’s infrastructure and operations. From renewable energy systems and water harvesting techniques to energy-efficient buildings, every aspect of La Loma Viva is designed to minimize environmental impact while maximizing sustainability. These systems not only support the farm’s operations but also serve as a living demonstration of regenerative practices in action.

Education is at the heart of our mission. Since 2012, La Loma Viva has been hosting a wide range of workshops, courses, and events, welcoming participants from around the world. We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with leading practitioners and international experts in permaculture and regenerative agriculture, fostering a vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just beginning your journey into sustainable living, our programs offer something for everyone.

¿Qué sueñas para el futuro de la granja o del lugar en general?

At La Loma Viva, we dream of a future where degraded Mediterranean landscapes are transformed into thriving ecosystems teeming with life. Our vision is to create a model of regeneration that not only restores the land but also nurtures communities and inspires others to adopt sustainable practices. By embracing agroecological principles, we aim to demonstrate that harmony between humans and nature is not just possible—it’s essential for the resilience of our planet.

We aspire to scale our efforts by developing replicable systems that address critical issues like water scarcity, soil degradation, and biodiversity loss. Through collaboration with like-minded organizations, researchers, and local communities, we envision a network of regenerative projects across the Mediterranean region. These efforts will serve as living examples of how agroecology can heal the land, feed people sustainably, and build a future where the earth's resources are cherished and preserved for generations to come.
