Morada Ekoa

Brazil

Descripción breve del lugar y las prácticas

The Morada Ekoa is a center for sustainability and permaculture located in Imbituba, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Rooted in the Guarani concept of "Ekoa," meaning "home" or "dwelling," the initiative embodies the inseparable bond between people and nature. Guided by permaculture principles—care for the Earth, care for people, and fair share—the Morada Ekoa integrates diverse practices like agroecology, agroforestry, bioconstruction, sustainable water management, and decentralized sanitation. These efforts showcase its commitment to ecological restoration and resilience.

A hallmark of the Morada Ekoa is its productive agroforestry system, which balances food production with ecosystem regeneration. In just two months of 2024, the initiative harvested over 258 kg of food, demonstrating the viability of ecological agriculture. These yields are distributed strategically: 50% supports ecotourism, 25% funds educational programs, and 25% sustains local food production. This approach not only promotes soil regeneration and biodiversity but also serves as a living laboratory for agroecological methods, offering courses, consultancy, and hands-on training for individuals and groups.

In addition to being a hub for agroecological innovation, the Morada Ekoa is part of the Associação de Turismo Rural Acolhida na Colônia, which fosters ecotourism and the appreciation of rural lifestyles. Through workshops, volunteer opportunities, and eco-hostel accommodations, visitors are invited to experience the harmony of living sustainably. Nestled between tranquil lagoons and ocean waves, Morada Ekoa provides a serene environment for learning, collaboration, and reconnection with nature, making it a true beacon of permaculture and agroecology in practice.

¿Qué sueñas para el futuro de la granja o del lugar en general?

The Morada Ekoa envisions a world where sustainability is not just a concept but a way of life deeply rooted in harmony with nature. Their primary goal is to create a self-sufficient and regenerative system that inspires individuals and communities to adopt permaculture and agroecological practices. They dream of becoming a model for sustainable living, where the land regenerates through agroforestry, water cycles are carefully managed, and human activities enhance rather than deplete natural resources. By sharing knowledge through workshops, consultations, and hands-on experiences, Morada Ekoa aims to empower people to replicate these practices in their own regions, contributing to a global movement toward ecological balance.

Another core aspiration of Morada Ekoa is to strengthen the relationship between humanity and the environment by fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and equity. They strive to create a thriving community where food is grown ethically, waste becomes a resource, and energy systems are renewable and efficient. Their dream is to expand the reach of their initiatives through partnerships and networks, amplifying the impact of their work. By demonstrating that sustainable practices can coexist with economic viability and community well-being, Morada Ekoa hopes to inspire a shift toward regenerative living and a more harmonious future for the planet.
