Programa de Desenvolvimento Local do Agreste da Paraíba

The Programa de Desenvolvimento Local do Agreste da Paraíba focuses its actions on 13 municipalities within the area covered by the Polo Sindical e das Organizações da Agricultura Familiar da Borborema. The program's strategy is designed to support the enhancement of the technical, methodological, socio-organizational, and political capacities of the organizations linked to the Polo, enabling them to formulate, advocate for, and implement a rural development project in the region based on the principles of socio-environmental sustainability through agroecology.

The Polo da Borborema is composed of a network of 13 rural workers' unions (STRs), approximately 150 community associations, and a regional organization of ecological farmers, EcoBorborema.

Organized into different thematic areas—water resources, agrobiodiversity, animal husbandry, health and food, ecological farming, commercialization, women, rural youth, childhood, and education—the program provides technical assistance to agroecological innovation networks that connect over five thousand farming families across the Borborema Territory.

Beyond its activities in the Agreste region of Paraíba, AS-PTA is committed to fostering exchange relationships with other organizations, networks, and movements in the agroecological field across different regions of Paraíba and Brazil’s semi-arid region. To this end, it actively participates in the development of the Articulação do Semiárido Paraibano (ASA-PB) and the Articulação no Semiárido Brasileiro (ASA Brasil).
