Agroflorestas no litoral norte/RS

Agroflorestas no litoral norte/RS

Summary description

In the northern coast of Rio Grande do Sul, according to the Flora Division of the State Department of Environment and Infrastructure (Sema), there are 62 certified agroforestry systems (AFS) recognized by the Litoral Regional Office. Of these, 20 receive technical support from the Centro Ecológico, spanning the municipalities of Mampituba, Dom Pedro de Alcântara, Três Cachoeiras, Torres, and Morrinhos do Sul, covering nearly 60 hectares.

These agroforestry systems represent a vital integration of agriculture and forest conservation, combining sustainable food production with ecological restoration. Through their implementation, farmers not only enhance biodiversity and improve soil health but also contribute to climate change mitigation by increasing carbon sequestration. The work of the Centro Ecológico in supporting these systems highlights the importance of technical guidance and education in ensuring that agroforestry practices are both productive and sustainable, benefiting local communities and ecosystems alike.
