The Papelotte agro-ecological micro-farm located in Waterloo near the battlefield is a permaculture market gardening project launched by Perma-Projects. Juliette and Tom are market gardeners and produce small organic fruits and vegetables without any mechanization or commercial fertilizers in order to respond to the challenges of the energy crisis. The life of the soil is at the centre of their thinking in order to provide better quality produce. They hope to create a balance between a sustainable ecosystem and the human species and to encourage the transition to a more subtle understanding of the natural phenomena that surround us.
Their production is sold through two systems:
- Weekly basket subscriptions to be picked up at the farm or in depots
- Sales to partner organic shops within a maximum radius of 25km
Juliette & Tom offer various activities in addition to their vegetable production. You can find there trainings for hobbyists who want to organise their own vegetable garden, an inspiring place to stay or a professional shared kitchen. If you are interested, please visit their website (www.papelotte.be) to get in direct contact with these young project leaders full of hope to accelerate the food transition that concerns us all.
Live soil cultivation
The idea behind living soil market gardening is to reconstitute the natural cycle of soil fertility in agricultural plots. The idea is based on the observation that in nature (woods, forests, meadows, etc.) plants grow on their own without the soil being worked or amended. Tom and Juliette are the partner market gardeners at our Vanderkindere market and will be delivering their delicious seasonal vegetables, grown with love and passion, all year round!
