GreenShoots Agroecology Community Centre

Founded in October 2010 with an initial focus on microfinance, Green Shoots Foundation has since evolved to embrace a holistic approach to development. Recognizing that poverty is multifaceted, the foundation integrates education, economic empowerment, and sustainable agriculture into its programs. By partnering with local organizations, Green Shoots ensures inclusive program delivery, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. This participatory approach fosters efficiency and consistency, with activities designed in collaboration with local communities to promote knowledge sharing and long-term impact.

A flagship example of this evolution is the award-winning AgriTech Centre, inaugurated in December 2018 in Northwest Cambodia. This community-led hub showcases integrated and organic farming practices, demonstrating a range of agroecological activities that promote sustainability and environmental stewardship. Open to schools, local farmers, university students, and visitors, the centre serves as both an educational space and a biodiversity hub, hosting over 50 species of fruit trees and edible plants. It has become a vital site for research on wild and foraged foods, preserving traditional ecological knowledge while inspiring innovative agricultural practices.

Through its Food, Agriculture & Social Entrepreneurship (FASE) program, Green Shoots actively promotes agroecology as a tool for rural revitalization. The AgriTech Centre exemplifies this mission by offering hands-on training in natural farming, permaculture, and sustainable land management. By combining practical skills with theoretical knowledge, the foundation empowers communities to adopt eco-friendly practices that enhance soil health, increase food security, and support local economies. This approach not only improves livelihoods but also strengthens the resilience of rural communities against climate change and economic challenges.
