Fazenda São José

Brazil

Descripción breve del lugar y las prácticas

At Fazenda São José, we are committed to producing high-quality agroecological food.

This centennial farm, originally established in 1895 as part of a larger sesmaria, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Once focused on coffee production, it has, over the past three decades, evolved into a diversified agroecological system that seamlessly combines organic farming with the preservation of both environmental and historical heritage.

Since 1985, Fazenda São José has been a pioneer in agroecology, integrating educational, historical, and environmental values into its practices. Today, 100% of the farm's area and production are certified organic, with our products available at organic markets in Campinas and São Paulo.

We cultivate crops deeply rooted in local traditions and biodiversity, such as heirloom varieties of cornmeal (fubá), yam, arrowroot (araruta), cassava (aipim), and a wide range of fresh vegetables and greens. These choices not only honor our agricultural heritage but also promote resilient and sustainable farming.

Detalles del sistema agrícola

Our goal is to expand the reach of our educational initiatives, sharing the principles of agroecology with more farmers, students, and families. We strive to grow not just food, but a movement that values ecological balance, ancestral knowledge, and social justice. Through partnerships and community engagement, we hope to build a thriving network of individuals committed to regenerating the planet, one seed and one story at a time.

¿Qué sueñas para el futuro de la granja o del lugar en general?

At Fazenda São José, our dream is to inspire a deeper connection between people, food, and nature. We envision a future where agroecology becomes a driving force for sustainable communities, fostering harmony between agricultural production and environmental preservation. By preserving the historical legacy of our land and promoting local biodiversity, we aim to set an example of how tradition and innovation can coexist to create a more equitable and resilient food system.
