🌱 Saifana transformed an abandoned, rocky cashew orchard with minimal topsoil and long seasonal droughts into a thriving example of agroecology and regenerative farming. Despite initial challenges and no farming background, they focused on building healthy, living soil rich in microorganisms—essential for water retention and nutrient absorption to grow resilient organic crops 🍅🌶️🥒. Using permaculture principles, they created permanent layered beds from local organic materials, improving soil fertility and enabling farming even during drought periods.
🌳 Saifana is also developing a diverse food forest, where over 80% of plants are edible and arranged in layers mimicking natural forests 🌴🥭. From emergent coconut trees to lower canopy fruit trees and ground-level shrubs, this system fosters biodiversity and sustainable productivity. Their agroecological approach not only regenerates the land but also provides a resilient, abundant source of food while respecting the delicate balance of the ecosystem 🌿💧.
