Short description of your place and practices

MOOF Africa (Mount Kenya Organic Farming Africa) is a pioneering organization based in Nanyuki, Kenya, dedicated to promoting agroecology as a pathway to sustainable agriculture and community empowerment. Since its establishment in 2002, MOOF Africa has worked tirelessly to equip smallholder farmers, women, and youth with the knowledge and tools to adopt environmentally friendly practices. Through agroecological methods, the organization fosters resilient food systems that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and climate adaptation, ensuring both ecological restoration and food sovereignty for communities in need.

At the heart of MOOF Africa’s mission is the integration of permaculture principles into farming systems. The organization emphasizes the importance of natural cycles, diverse cropping systems, and organic soil enrichment techniques to reduce reliance on synthetic inputs. Through hands-on training and demonstrations, MOOF Africa teaches farmers to establish sustainable agroforestry systems, enhance water conservation, and incorporate indigenous crops that thrive in local climates. These practices not only restore degraded ecosystems but also improve yields, diversify diets, and create economic opportunities for marginalized communities.

In addition to its on-ground agricultural efforts, MOOF Africa extends its agroecological principles to community education and capacity building. It collaborates with schools, farmer groups, and local institutions to create eco-villages that serve as living examples of regenerative development. The organization also manages an organic hostel and training center, where visitors and trainees can experience agroecology in practice while learning about its social, economic, and environmental benefits. By weaving together education, conservation, and practical farming solutions, MOOF Africa is transforming lives and landscapes across Kenya and beyond.

What is your dream for the future of your farm and/or your location in general?

MOOF Africa dreams of a world where smallholder farmers are empowered to lead sustainable and prosperous lives through agroecology. Their ultimate goal is to transform rural communities into hubs of ecological resilience and food sovereignty by equipping farmers with the skills to restore ecosystems, improve soil fertility, and adapt to climate challenges. By fostering self-reliance and promoting organic farming techniques, they aim to end the cycle of poverty, ensure food security, and inspire a shift toward regenerative agricultural practices across Kenya and beyond.

The organization also envisions becoming a leading hub for agroecological innovation and education in Africa. They aspire to expand their training programs, creating more eco-villages and demonstration farms that highlight the benefits of sustainable land management. Through partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations, MOOF Africa hopes to reach more drought-affected regions, restore degraded landscapes, and uplift underserved populations. Their dream is not only to heal the land but also to cultivate a deeper connection between people and nature, ensuring a harmonious and thriving future for generations to come
