La Puma Farms is a three-acre certified organic urban regenerative farm designed as a living example of agroecology and permaculture in practice. Often described as “a Shangri-La for Food,” the farm integrates avocado groves, passion fruit tunnels, medicinal gardens, and native habitats into a diverse, resilient landscape. Every element is intentionally designed to enhance biodiversity, ecological balance, and long-term productivity, proving that beauty, abundance, and ecological responsibility can thrive together.
Rooted in regenerative agriculture principles, La Puma Farms prioritizes soil health, ecosystem function, and human well-being. The farm applies no-till practices, heavy mulching, biochar, compost, and dynamic plants such as comfrey to build living soils rich in carbon and nutrients. More than 10% of the land is dedicated to insectary plants and wildflowers, supporting beneficial insects and natural pest control, while multispecies cover crops protect orchards, improve fertility, and sequester carbon and nitrogen. Water stewardship is central, with rainwater capture, reuse systems, and efficient drip irrigation minimizing waste.
Designed by physician and food advocate John La Puma, M.D. (“ChefMD”), the farm produces cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, raw wildflower honey, whole loofah, and an extraordinary diversity of fruits, herbs, botanicals, and edible flowers—many supplied to local, Michelin-recognized restaurants. Beyond production, La Puma Farms offers curated farm experiences, guided tours, and tastings that connect people directly with regenerative food systems, inspiring a deeper understanding of how agroecology, permaculture, and regenerative agriculture can nourish both land and community.
Regenerative farming creates a healthy microbiome for the soil, captures carbon and respects the planet, and is a practical, readily learned pathway to preventing climate-related suffering.
La Puma Farms is committed to improving the health of the soil, the planet and the people who attend our educational, care farm and touring programs.
We use regenerative farming techniques, avoiding synthetic artificial chemicals and improving the
nutrient density and flavor of what we grow.
