Freetown Farm

Short description of your place and practices

Freetown Farm is an educational farm in Columbia, Maryland and is a part of the non profit The Community Ecology Institute. We are a 6.4 acre small-scale urban/suburban farm that grows food, connects people to nature, and improves our local food system. We have a robust volunteer program that teaches our community how to grow food and be a steward of the land.

Our practices include:
- No till agriculture
- Cover cropping
- IPM (integrated pest management)
- Composting
- Food forestry
- Climate Victory Gardening
- Stormwater BMPs
- Lawn transition to native habitat
- And more!

We have been growing at Freetown Farm since 2019 and focus on a variety of vegetables, native plants, and a small number of fruits and berries. The majority of what we grow is donated to local food distribution services including food pantries.
